Enamel pin 2D Helmet of Mehmet II

Mehmet II was the seventh sultan of the Ottoman dynasty. In 1453, he captured Constantinople, thereby extending Ottoman power across the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Mehmet made Constantinople his capital. He had the Topkapi Palace built there, which became the heart of a strongly centralised empire. But Mehmet was not merely a military leader and administrator. He also promoted the arts, sciences, trade and diplomacy.
